I'm not exactly a princess, but I do like some of my creature comforts (ie bathrooms and flushing toilets!) a little too much to ever fully get into the swing of the great outdoors. It's been a long time, though, so maybe I need to give it another shot ;)Madeleinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04193070164584925505noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5961604105772410147.post-39701843524827671102013-01-19T14:17:31.096-08:002013-01-19T14:17:31.096-08:00Thanks, Carol! I have been in hostels, but that doesn't mix well with being a light sleeper. Also, I am more a camping in a tent gal - been camping since I was 12. It is a lot to carry, but so much fun to live without walls! I even camped a week in the rain with a friend. We saw every coffee shop and cafe in town :-) Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5961604105772410147.post-62414826548415441782013-01-17T15:51:53.428-08:002013-01-17T15:51:53.428-08:00What an enjoyable post to read! With my husband in the military, we can explore and have great accommodation most anywhere in the world. On post or base housing is one of the great perks of military life. You definitely need to visit Seattle. You won't be disappointed. carol danielshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15199172053416419162noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5961604105772410147.post-46059442702813889662013-01-17T14:22:00.779-08:002013-01-17T14:22:00.779-08:00Thank you! ...Thank you! I'm glad to have found yours, too.

We visited our friends in Portland back in 2010, and fell in love with the city - it could not be more different from LA! Been dying to go back ever since, and I'm looking very forward to possibly exploring more of the NW this year.Madeleinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04193070164584925505noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5961604105772410147.post-83818392154983984622013-01-17T14:06:58.187-08:002013-01-17T14:06:58.187-08:00We are budget travelers too :). There's a Best Western in our favorite ski town (2 hours' drive from Seattle -- our home!) that is no-frills, but it's got the most wonderful showers to warm you up after a day on a cold mountain.

Portland's a favorite city of ours to visit -- and there's always something new to discover if you go looking. We're counting on making it a more regular road trip destination for family getaways in the nearer future, when flying will be less convenient with a lap child.

Glad to have found your blog! This Ro(a)mantic Lifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09324882155203905958noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5961604105772410147.post-30182378076496538822013-01-17T09:02:54.484-08:002013-01-17T09:02:54.484-08:00I've lived in my fair share of old homes too, ...I've lived in my fair share of old homes too, believe me! All my adult life I have lived in old houses. By choice, but we have never had the money to really redo any of the bathrooms. I LOVE when I travel and get to experience a nice hot, full spray shower. Heck I love it at the county department Aquatics Center after a swim. Aside from some great hotel showers, I'll also never forget my first shower after giving birth - both times. Best shower(s) ever!

Good showers and clean bed sheets = two of my favourite things in life. That would explain part of my love affair with hotels.

I've yet to see Hawaii - lucky you! Hopefully we'll manage it sooner than later, with one of our cross-Pacific trips :)Madeleinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04193070164584925505noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5961604105772410147.post-59029194395645724982013-01-17T01:32:46.729-08:002013-01-17T01:32:46.729-08:00A good post it was too!
Something else we have ...A good post it was too!

Something else we have in common is the desire to immediately get out and acquaint ourselves with the new surroundings. You've been to some pretty amazing places by the sound of it.

I have limited experience of hotels really. The most expensive one was a honeymoon night stay. Otherwise, my tastes are fairly basic and funnily enough, quite similar to yours. =)

Agreed that a good shower is truly memorable. One place we stayed at in Hawaii (and it was only an average kind of joint) had the best damn shower I've ever used. I stood under it for ages.

Come to think of it, the shower in the honeymoon hotel wasn't anywhere near as good. Not what you'd expect, huh? melbohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14032793912135092967noreply@blogger.com
